Insurance Coverage for Psychotherapy. I am not a provider on any insurance panels. However, if your insurance carrier provides out-of-network coverage for mental health services, I may be able to provide you with a “super bill” (receipt) for insurance reimbursement. To qualify for reimbursement you must meet the criteria for a mental health disorder and be diagnosed. Insurance benefits are NOT available for missed appointments.

Insurance companies typically cover individual therapy and some cover family therapy, but most do not cover couples' therapy. Discernment Counseling, Coaching, and Family Estrangement & Reconciliation are not covered.

I recommend that you contact your insurance company to understand the extent of coverage and the reimbursement process. Here are some questions to ask prior to your first appointment:

  1. I’m hoping to meet with a therapist who is outside of my insurance network, and I will be paying them directly. What are my out-of-network benefits? Specifically, how much of the therapist’s fee will I be reimbursed through my plan? [CPT Codes: Family therapy 90847, 90846; Individual Therapy 90834, 90837]

  2. Is there a limit to the number of sessions that will be covered?
